What’s Hot in Data

What’s Hot in Data

Report Author(s): Philip Howard

Not every enterprise is an early adopter of innovative technology. Many companies prefer to wait until new approaches and techniques are tried and tested. However, there are some organisations that do experiment with new technology at an early stage. And some of those businesses are your rivals. It is therefore important to know what new technologies have to offer, regardless of whether that is for immediate investigation or so that you at least have an idea of what your competitors may be up to.

Much has been written about the “data-driven enterprise” and we do not intend to repeat the arguments in favour of such an approach. In this paper, which is focused on technologies within the information management space, we have identified the potential significance of a wide range of data-based technologies that impact on the move to a data-driven environment.

These are not discussed in detail herein but merely highlighted; we will be producing additional resources that discuss different subject areas in more detail. Some of the technologies we highlight are focused on increased efficiency, others on (self-service based) productivity, some on providing improved actionable insight, and others are more related to governance, risk and compliance. We have identified topics that are “hot” and which are attracting significant attention. We also predict the extent to which that heat will be carried forward into the future. In some cases, hot topics are innovative and new, but there are also instances where it is more a question of technologies that have matured to the extent that they are ready for prime time.
