Although many products on the market grew up to tackle the problem of name and address validation, companies are increasingly expecting to tackle data quality problems in other data domains such as product data. Different approaches are needed here, as the algorithms that are good at picking out common misspellings of people’s names are of little use in dealing with the more complex nomenclature of product data, which is often stored in unstructured form. Other techniques such as parsing of files need to be applied in such cases, and some vendors have expanded their product offerings to be able to address different data domains.
